This grant gives money to state and local crime labs that already use DNA testing. The goal is to help them use DNA technology more effectively, process more samples, and enter results into the national database (CODIS) to solve crimes and improve public safety. The funding is competitive, meaning labs must apply and be selected. A separate program called the CEBR Formula Grant offers automatic funding, but labs can apply for both types.

this funding opportunity seeks to support states and units of local government with existing crime laboratories that conduct dna analysis to solve crimes and protect public safety by maximizing the effective utilization of dna technology to process dna samples for entry into the combined dna index system (codis). this program is for competitive funding only. see fy 2025 dna capacity enhancement for backlog reduction (cebr) – formula grants program for formula funding. eligible agencies may apply for both competitive and formula cebr funding.
