This funding helps state and local crime labs that do DNA testing. The goal is to help them process more DNA samples for the national DNA database called CODIS. By giving labs this support, it reduces the number of DNA samples waiting to be tested and prevents backlogs, so crimes can be solved faster and justice can be served more efficiently.

this funding opportunity seeks to support states and units of local government with existing crime laboratories that conduct dna analysis to process, and/or to increase the capacity to process, more dna samples for entry into the combined dna index system (codis). the objective is to reduce the number of forensic dna and dna database samples awaiting analysis and/or to prevent a backlog of forensic and database dna samples.
